TV-Video Production/Broadcast Journalism Major
The TV-Video Production/Broadcast Journalism major
is where you discover all the ins-and-outs of television/video production. This is also where you'll get hands-on experience at our student-operated, cable access TV station, PSTV, producing shows like Cardinal Hockey - broadcasting locally and as far away as Montreal. As well, there are 2 concentrations available to more clearly define your video-related career interests. Options within the TV-Video Production/Broadcast Journalism Major include:
TV-Video Production Concentration
In the TV-Video Production concentration you learn studio and field production for video and television. Through hands-on experience with cutting edge digital equipment, you produce television shows and edit in linear and non-linear suites.
You apply theoretical concepts while planning and designing programs, capturing, editing and post-producing shows in the studio and the field.
You will have the opportunity to work at Plattsburgh State's television facility, PSTV, and reach from 40,000 regular viewers to 2 million viewers through specialty programming like "Cardinal Hockey."
Graduating with this concentration, you will be prepared for careers from producing and directing, acting and editing, and various other production positions.
Broadcast Journalism Concentration
The Broadcast Journalism concentration prepares you to gather, produce, and deliver the news. You learn techniques and acquire management skills for the production of news, sports, and feature-length public affairs programs for radio and television broadcasting. Through hands-on training in three different media outlets, you will prepare for careers as news and sports journalists, board and camera operators, writers, anchors, and video editors. Added to a strong liberal arts core, courses in journalism, ethics, on-air performance, broadcast writing, and media production prepare you for many facets of the broadcast news industry.
