Financial Aid and Scholarships for Education Majors
Overview
The Financial Aid Office at Plattsburgh State processes over $31 million in financial assistance each academic year. Aid is offered from federal, state, institutional and private programs. In order to be determined for financial aid eligibility, including student loans, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) once each year.

Scholarships
The Departments of Educational Studies and Services have a number of scholarships available to both undergraduate and graduate education majors.
Undergraduate applications for scholarships are generally due in the Departments of Educational Studies and Services Administrative Office (Room 302 Sibley) in March of each year.
Requirements:
Plan to stop by the office in early February for more information and an application form. To qualify, undergraduate students must meet the following qualifications:
- be enrolled as an education major with at least a junior standing,
- have completed at least 30 hours on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus by May,
- have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, and
- demonstrate potential for leadership in education.

Applications for the Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Fellowship can be obtained by contacting Departments of Educational Studies and Services Administrative Office (518) 564-2122 in the early fall for more information.
