The Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Memorial Graduate Foundation Fellowship
The Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Memorial Graduate Foundation Fellowship, established in memory and honor of Melissa, is awarded each year to a new or returning full-time, male or female graduate student at Plattsburgh State University of New York. The graduate student needs to be enrolled in the Masters Program in Education and priority will be given to M.S.T. students.
The award is based on academic merit. Seton Catholic and Plattsburgh High School graduates will be given priority. Information from the applicant's graduate application file, including transcripts and letters of recommendations, will be used in the evaluation process.
A minimum annual award of $1,000 will be given to the selected fellowship recipient to apply to graduate tuition and fees only. Fellowship recipients are expected to maintain a 3.0 grade point average while taking at least 9 hours of graduate work per semester. If the recipient maintains this progress, he/she will be awarded the fellowship until the graduate degree is completed, up to a maximum of two years.
The Provost of Plattsburgh State University of New York shall appoint a committee to advise in the selection of each year's recipient. The advisory committee shall include a member of the Lahtinen family.
Fellowship Qualifications
- New or returning full-time, male or female Graduate students at Plattsburgh State University of New York.
- Must be enrolled in the Masters program for Education. (Priority will be given to MST students.)
- Good academic merit (no restrictions on intended field of study).
- Students that graduated from Seton Catholic and Plattsburgh High Schools will be given priority.
- Fellowship recipients must maintain a 3.0 grade point average while taking at least 9 hours of graduate work per semester.
Application Information
Applicants should obtain an application form from the Financial Aid Office, 406 Kehoe, Graduate Admissions, 113 Kehoe, or Dean of Professional Studies, 400 Sibley Hall, and return the completed form to the Financial Aid office.
